Urubamba – km104 – Machu Picchu
In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in the Urubamba Valley and taken to Ollantaytambo train station. Here you will board the train, which will take you past small villages and through the beautiful landscape of the Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes. Once at the train station, you will walk a short distance to the bus station, from where a shuttle bus will take you up the winding road to the most fantastic ruins in South America in around 20 minutes. Machu Picchu, the "lost city of the Incas", was built in the 15th century at an altitude of 2,430 m on a mountain ridge and was only rediscovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. After a detailed tour of the various areas with temples and terraces, you will take the shuttle bus back to Aguas Calientes.
